Water Quality Report to be Presented

There will be an Important Ossipee Watershed water quality meeting today, June 19th, at 5pm at Freedom Town Hall. For the first time, residents of Ossipee, Freedom, Effingham, Tamworth, and Madison will be able to see an assessment of our local water quality based on a full 10 years of data. Many local volunteers and scientists have been involved in this program supported in part by all of the area’s towns.

Triple E Found in Ossipee Test Worries Health Officials

A horse in Ossipee has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis, an usual finding for our region that raises the risk level for the town of Ossipee from “remote” to “high.” The surrounding towns of Tamworth, Madison, Freedom, Effingham, Wakefield, Brookfield, Wolfeboro, Tuftonborough, and Moultonborough will increase to “moderate” risk level.

DES Releases Exotic Species Program Report

The NH Department of Environmental Services’ Exotic Species Program coordinates the state’s activities to prevent, research, and control invasive plants and other species. It is funded by $7.50 from each boat registered in the state each year, much of which comes back to local towns via grants for weed control and Lake Host inspectors. This report summarizes the broad range of activities conducted by the DES between 2009 and 2012.
