Ossipee—March 26, 2021—The body of a missing Massachusetts woman has been found in Ossipee Lake. Fish and Game officials said a dive team found the body of Sinead Lyons, 41, of Lowell, Massachusetts, in the lake Friday afternoon.
The case remains under investigation, but officials said there does not appear to be any foul play.
Lyons was reported missing two weeks ago and was last seen walking her German shepherd along the shore of Ossipee Lake. Authorities combed the area, searching by foot, by air and by water for Lyons.
With the ice deteriorating, crews went back Friday to recheck the part of the lake where they thought her body might be.
“She was doing exactly what we believed she was doing, walking along the edge of this pressure ridge, and she then went through the ice at some point or on the edge maybe of where the Bear[camp] River comes into Lake Ossipee,” Capt. Michael Eastman said. “I would say that’s probably where she went into the water.”
Her dog has not been found.
Lyons was originally from Ireland, and officials said her family flew in from there as the search went on.
“It’s a sad situation,” Eastman said. “Our heart goes out to the family. They certainly traveled a long distance to get here for this. It’s sad.”
Investigators are warning everyone to be cautious around ice. Last week, the body of another missing woman was found in the Pemigewasset River in Lincoln.
