Concord — July 13, 2004 — The state has denied an application by Pine Landing Beach Club Inc. to expand its congregate mooring field on the big lake from 39 moorings to 45. A public hearing was held on the matter on March 16th.
In a written report, Department of Safety Services director David Barrett noted that the club’s shore frontage “cannot safely support the placement of additional moorings” without extending the mooring field further into the lake. Other safety concerns Barrett cited included the mooring field’s close proximity to an active swimming area and another congregate mooring field comprised of 28 moorings at an adjacent property.
The agency’s report says that 75 individuals contacted the agency to oppose the additional moorings, including an abutting property owner who described the cove in question as “the most congested, unsafe, polluted, and unattractive area of the lake.” One letter was received in support of the application, according to Barrett.
