Freedom — July 25, 2008 — Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be on Saturday, August 2 – the annual opportunity for lake residents to clean out their garage and under the kitchen sink and dispose of hazardous materials properly and at no cost.
From 8:30 to Noon, taxpayers from Ossipee, Freedom and Effingham can drop off oil-based paints, household cleaners, transmission and brake fluids, and lawn and garden products, among other hazardous materials, at the Town Highway Garage on Main Street in Center Ossipee.
Many common products used in the home, garden, lawn, and garage are considered hazardous and cannot be discarded at local transfer centers. For more than 20 years, the Lakes Region Planning Commission (LRPC) has made it convenient to discard such items at annual collection days in centrally located drop-off points.
Check the LRPC website for a list of hazardous materials that will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include propane tanks, tires, latex paints, and alkaline batteries. Check your local transfer station for proper disposal of those items.
