Freedom—April 24, 2013—The Friends of the Freedom Public Library will host “The Common Loon: Ongoing Recovery for a New Hampshire Icon” on May 2 at 6:30 p.m. John Cooley, who is senior biologist for the Loon Preservation Committee in Moultonborough, will make the presentation.

Cooley will describe the natural history and conservation of these amazing and beautiful birds on New Hampshire lake, including how long it takes for a loon egg to hatch, whether loons mate for life, threats they face, and how you can help track and protect them.

As a biologist for the Loon Preservation Committee, Cooley has helped monitor, manage and study loons throughout New Hampshire since 2005. The free program on May 2 is open to the public and the hall is handicap accessible. Ossipee Lake Alliance annually helps the Loon Preservation Committee coordinate the loon census for the big lake and bays.
