Freedom – February 12, 2010 — Scott Cunningham wants to be a Freedom selectman and has launched his campaign with a message focused on public service and making a contribution to the town’s future.

Cunningham will face incumbent Jim Brown in the town’s elections on Tuesday, March 9th, the same day as the annual Town Meeting.

A full-time resident for the past 15 years, Cunningham says his family came to Freedom in 1917 and has been part of the town for five generations.

“It’s time to give back to the town that I have viewed as my home for my entire life,” he said in a campaign flyer that is being circulated in the community.

Cunningham is a career management consultant who says he’ll bring 40 years of business experience to town office.

He describes himself as a fiscal conservative who “understands that a small town must control spending,” and he says he’ll bring a team approach to decision making on town matters.

“I believe in a decision making process that is open, and inclusive,” he states in his campaign flyer, adding “I believe that town-wide concerns should be met with a pro-active approach by the Selectmen.”

His agenda list starts with promises to “protect Freedom’s special setting and traditions as we grow,” and to “make town government inclusive, transparent, and civil.”

Cunningham says he’ll “balance what Freedom can afford with what people want” and keep taxes “at levels that people can afford.” He also says he will “make decisions that are consistent with our town traditions.”

“I have deep roots in Freedom,” he writes as one of the reasons he’s running for selectman. “I know the town well and love it deeply.”

Freedom will host a Candidate’s Night on Thursday, February 25, at 7 p.m. in the Town Library meeting room.
