Ossipee — July 11, 2005 — Love handmade quilts? Now you have a chance to win one of three of them in a raffle that will benefit an important local cause.

June D’Andrea, Holly Robacher and Susan Marks share a love of quilting and a commitment to volunteer community service. Now the three Ossipee Lake residents have combined those interests by donating three of their handmade quilts to raise money for Freedom’s milfoil control fund, which helps pay for the expensive removal of invasive weeds from the lake.

Tickets for the raffle will be on sale at a variety of locations throughout the summer, and on Labor Day weekend three lucky winners will be selected at random.

Quilting has always been a popular craft and is often done to raise money for a worthy cause. Designs can celebrate a special event, such as a birth or wedding, or convey a story about local history.

The three women picked the designs for their quilts and did all of the sewing, with the final quilting done as a donation by The Attic Cat on Ryefield Road in Effingham.

The quilts, which are throw size and measure approximately 57” x 75”, will be on display at several Freedom Old Home Week events, including the parade on July 30th and the “Among the Bears” presentation on Saturday, August 6th.

Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and may be purchased at the events or by calling June at 539-1643 or Holly at 539-5093. Tickets are also available at Danforth Bay Camping Resort and Totem Pole Park.

The drawing will take place on Sunday, September 4th and the winners do not need to be present. If a winner is from out of town, the quilts will be mailed. All of the proceeds from the raffle will be presented to the Freedom Selectmen to be added to the town’s milfoil control fund.
