Freedom — February 8, 2010 — With local elections just four weeks away, the selectman’s races in Freedom and Ossipee have taken shape according to a report by the Carroll County Independent.
In Freedom, Selectman Jim Brown has filed to run for a new term and will face a challenge by businessman Scott Cunningham. In Ossipee, meanwhile, retired Police Chief Rick Morgan will square off against current Select Board Chair Kathleen Maloney.
Both races are for three-year terms.
There are two other contested races in Freedom. Josh Battles has filed to run against incumbent Road Agent Scott Brooks, and Anthony Cloutier will face Heather Cunio for a three-year school board position being vacated by Jim Farinella.
All other races in both towns are uncontested.
Its good to see a race here in Ossipee. The Board of Selectman here need to be brought into the 21st Century, not mired in 1960’s back room politics. Hopefully Rick will get elected and ensure that the Board properly follow the Right to Know Law as a first start! There are way too many Executive sessions being called during the middle and end of meetings, with no prior notification and failure to properly notify the public as to the intent of these secret sessions, a clear and persistent violation of RSA 91:A. Good luck Rick, you have my family’s total support!
