Freedom – January 19, 2010 – Ossipee Lake area voters will elect three selectmen and pick from among candidates for an array of other town positions on March 9, seven weeks from today.
So, who’s running? While there’s speculation galore, the official slate of candidates won’t be known until the end of the filing period, which begins tomorrow and ends on Friday, January 29.
Chief among the municipal positions up for grabs are the three-year Select Board seats. Coming to the end of their terms are Ossipee Selectman Kathleen Maloney, Freedom’s Jim Brown and Effingham’s Bill Piekut.
Ossipee residents will also elect a Town Clerk/Tax Collector, two Planning Board members, two Budget Committee members and a Zoning Board member. In Effingham, voters will elect two candidates each for its Budget Committee, Planning Board and Zoning Board.
Freedom voters will consider the Town Clerk position and decide on two Planning Board seats, the Town Moderator and the Road Agent.
Many other positions are also up for grabs in the three lake towns, ranging from Library Trustee to Town Treasurer to Supervisor of the Checklist.
Town voting is on the same day as Town Meeting in Freedom, but is held in advance of Town Meeting in Ossipee and Effingham. Ossipee’s Town Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 10, and Effingham’s will be on Saturday, March 13.
