Freedom — July 19, 2007 — The Green Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG), Ossipee Lake Alliance and Chocorua Lake Association will be holding the Annual Watershed Weekend on Saturday, July 21st beginning at 12 p.m.
The event is hosted by Camp Calumet in Freedom, N.H. on the shores of beautiful Ossipee Lake. This year, Watershed Weekend will focus on New Hampshire’s lakes, lake management and protection. The event is free and open to the public. The day will commence with a barbeque lunch on Calumet’s waterfront, followed by boat rides, kids’ programs, exhibits, and presentations. Special presentations include: “A History of New Hampshire’s Lakes”, “Low Impact Development and Shoreland Protection”, “Involving Youth in Lake Stewardship”, “Managing Milfoil and Exotic Species”, and “The New Hampshire Lakes Association’s Lake Host Program”.
At 4:00 p.m. a forum will be held where event speakers and watershed organizations will discuss lake issues, answer audience questions, and provide guidance for local lake management and protection. The evening presentation will feature a presentation entitled “Fire and Ice: Tales of Lake Ossipee” at 8:00 p.m.with Dr. Robert Newton of Smith College. All donations towards Dr. Newton’s presentation will support the Ossipee Conservation Commission’s fund to purchase the Ossipee Mountains Viewshed Property.
