Freedom — June 27, 2006 — A Sea-Doo explosion at the Ossipee Lake Marina in Freedom left two people with second-degree burns.

New Hampshire Marine Patrol said the flash explosion occurred Monday, June 19th just after the Sea-Doo personal watercraft had gassed up.

The Marine Patrol’s Crystal McLain said that David Ross, 44, of Medford, Mass. was attempting to fix an engine problem when the explosion occurred. Ross opened the engine compartment and pulled out a spark plug, then cranked the engine to clear excess fuel, when gas fumes triggered the explosion.

Ross and a 13-year-old boy suffered second degree burns to their faces and torsos. Both were treated at Memorial Hospital and released.

The accident occurred just days after two boaters were thrown from a bass fishing boat traveling across the big lake at close to 70 MPH.

According to the Marine Patrol, the driver, Brian Provencher of Merrimack, NH., and a passenger were ejected from the boat after it hit a wake and became airborne.

The extensively damaged boat was towed to shore where Provencher was transported to Huggins Hospital, where he was treated and released. His passenger was unhurt.
