Freedom — May 8, 2004 — The era of the Friedman family’s ownership of Camp Robin Hood quietly came to an end during the winter with the sale of the property to investors led by former camper and counselor David Cole of Ohio. Cole says he intends to continue operating Robin Hood as a summer camp. He and his wife, Jamie, will serve as co-directors of the business when the camp season starts on June 26th. They and their two young daughters will take up residence immediately after Memorial Day.
Founded in 1927 by Andy Friedman and most recently owned by his son, Drew, Camp Robin Hood is spread over 200 acres and has an extensive shoreline on Broad Bay and the Leavitt Bay channel in Freedom. Cole says that he intends to sell a limited amount of property that is not strategic to the camp’s operations to help ensure the viability of his long-term plan to maintain Robin Hood as a camp.
Cole adds that any land sale will be consistent with preserving the rural character of the area, which is one of the camp’s primary attractions. Camp Robin Hood’s website is at www.camprobinhood.com.
